Shopping centre chic taken to extremes at arc this week

Date Published: 30.04.2010

If you’re passing Shakeaway milkshake parlour this bank holiday weekend then prepare for some celebrity spotting. Staff are encouraging customers to join them and dress up as their favourite celebrities as part of a nationwide competition. The best lookalikes are in with a chance of appearing in the music video for “Shake It”, a song to be released the summer by The Shakettes featuring ‘the voice of X Factor’, Peter Dickinson. Ten per cent discounts will also be available to customers whose costumes staff can successfully identify.

The following Saturday, a time-warp will be descending on Rush Hair salon as staff will be digging out any seventies gear they can get their hands on, for a disco themed event to help raise money for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. HAIRraising is an appeal set up by the hairdressing industry to try and raise £1m for two new operating theatres at the hospital. Money collectors, complete with flares and platform shoes, will be accepting donations as well as inducing nostalgia for shoppers of a certain age.

Paul Haynes, Centre Manger at arc, comments: “Events like these are great fun and we fully support initiatives that make the shopping experience at arc even more enjoyable”.
